The Jungle… The Farm… TWO MONTHS STRAIGHT – NO BREAKS!
We were hungry for an adventure so off to Caye Caulker we go!
JAY JUNIOR (aka JJ): You two have been talking about taking me away from all the dirt, heat and flies for weeks. Come on now, let’s go bitches!!!
We took a water taxi service from Belize City across the water. It’s a 45 minute journey and round trip costs $25 per person.
JAY JUNIOR (aka JJ): This was my first time on a boat and if these two bastards ever try stuffing me in a box or on a boat again I will leave them a fat and juicy mint on their pillow for nap time – WOL!!!!!!
Jenna: The morning we were set to depart the jungle, we called every hotel on the island to assess our dog friendly options. Little did we know the island is overrun by resident dogs. JJ found a lot more comfort in Luke’s arms than on the ground…
JAY JUNIOR (aka JJ): DADDY!!!!! Who is this strong looking bitch and what is she going to do to me!!!
Luke: Just a deep clean my boy…
Luke: Dogs everywhere, but well-behaved with their own different personalities and freedom. Quick bum sniff and they just toddled off.
Jenna: So here we found ourselves – on an island 5 miles long and at most 1.2 miles wide. No paved roads & no cars – so naturally we earmarked the best bars on the island. Cheers!
Our first hotel was on the ‘busy’ side of the island adjacent to ‘the split’ – this is where the once whole island was split in half by a hurricane.
Within 2 days of arrival MAGIC HAPPENED and we were upgraded to a hotel on the opposite end of the island provided by Belize’s one and only DON! No need for names – you know who you are!
Luke: Caye Caulker is a warm and inviting town with great island living. Nothing modern. Just the laid back luxuries that come without having to be in a fast paced environment. We mellowed into the atmosphere of the islands vibe and it was a perfect wiiiiiinnnnnnnndddddddd down from what had been our reality to date thus far
Jenna: Caye Caulker is such a quaint, budget friendly town and as we are in the midst of Belize’s slow season many times it felt as if we were alone and stranded.
Until we met the most wonderful couple, Rosco & Faymous. They just moved to the island from Canada to establish their own holiday resort – Rosco’s Faymous Resort. Watch this space! It will be amazing!
Jenna: We can be so shit with our camera at times (as it is all about the moments) that the only picture we have together is this one… the night we met and they were sitting at the table behind us.
Although our aim was to go diving, weather hit and laziness sunk in deep. We spent our days relaxing and our evenings trying out all the local eateries with Rosco & Faymous – what a magical duo.
Jenna: The pizza joint… It was like an episode of ‘Bar Rescue’. The owner was out of it and his ‘staff” were even more questionable!
Luke: This place looks cool but the chicken, pineapple, onion, pepper and cheese pizza that we ordered came out without the chicken, pineapple and cheese on it. I don’t even like eating pizza but what in the hell is that. Ridiculous. The owner had been in court all day due to a restraining order from his Mrs and hadn’t been food shopping. He kicked another couple out because they wanted to cancel the food order as he hadn’t any cheese. Then asked us before we even finished our shit pizza for 90% of the bill. If we weren’t so pissed on the rum punch it would have kicked off. All adds to the experience!!!!!!
Jenna: On an island this small, there is little to do for entertainment.. So shots of rum with a random room of strangers will do.
Our time on this island was short but special and we will most certainly be back! If not diving, then to stay at Rosco’s Faymous Resort!
